Mobility assistance questions
What is mobility assistance in home care?
Mobility assistance is hands-on help from a trained caregiver with walking, transfers and the daily moves that put a person at risk of falling: getting out of bed, standing, the bathroom, stairs and the car. It includes fall prevention at home and support for therapy exercises.
Is mobility assistance the same as physical therapy?
No. Physical therapy is a skilled service prescribed by a doctor to rebuild strength and balance. Mobility assistance is the daily non-medical help that keeps a person safe between and after therapy. Angels Instead is licensed for both home care and home health, so the two can be coordinated.
How fast can mobility assistance start?
Usually within 24 hours of your call, and the same day when it is urgent: home safety assessment, care plan and caregiver introduction.
Are your caregivers trained in safe transfers?
Yes. Caregivers are trained in safe transfer technique, gait belts, walkers and wheelchairs, and bathroom safety, and a care coordinator checks the home setup.
Can a caregiver help with the shower?
Yes. Standing by or hands-on help in the shower or bath is one of the most requested services, because the bathroom is where most falls happen.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
Yes, shifts are a minimum of 4 hours. Many families schedule mornings and bedtimes, shower days and appointment days.
How much does mobility assistance cost in Houston or Dallas?
It is billed by the hour and depends on the level of help needed. See your exact rate in about a minute with the online quote. There is no long-term commitment.
Does long-term care insurance or the VA cover it?
Usually yes. Help with transfers and walking counts as an activity of daily living under most long-term care policies, and eligible veterans can receive it through the VA. We help with both.

My experience with Angels Instead was awesome! They took care of my Grandma who has dementia. They sent us a consistent caregiver, Julie, who was fantastic. She always made it on time and she treated my grandma with compassion and respect. She accompanied her to Dr. appointments and played with her piano. She also did daily exercises with her and always kept the house tidy and clean! The agency follows up with us daily after each shift and makes sure all went well. I recommend them to every family who is looking for home care! By the way, they had a family portal that kept all our family up to date on everything my Grandma is doing! No surprises on invoices and their rates are affordable compared to what other agencies quoted us.

Our family is endlessly grateful for Angels Instead, especially for Luisa, the CNA who cared for my grandmother during her final months. We truly believe that when we reached out to Angels Instead, God sent us an actual angel. Luisa cared for my grandma with a level of love, patience, and compassion that went far beyond anything we expected. She treated her with dignity, tenderness, and genuine affection every single day. Her presence also brought tremendous comfort to my mom, who felt supported, guided, and never alone in the process of caring for her own mother. Losing my grandma has been incredibly difficult, but knowing she was surrounded by such compassionate care brings us so much peace. I cannot thank Angels Instead, especially Luisa and Tammy, enough. If you are looking for a home care agency that treats your loved one like family, this is the place. We will forever be grateful.
I have worked with Angels Instead for many months and they are very responsive in assuring there is always a caregiver on site. This is very important in caring for my bedridden mother.
Good, compassionate care.
