24-hour and live-in care in Houston and Dallas

For someone who should not be alone, day or night. Live-in care places one consistent caregiver in the home; 24-hour care rotates awake caregivers in shifts. Either way, nights are covered, falls are prevented and the family sleeps. Care can usually start within 24 hours.

24-hour care or live-in care?

Both cover the whole day. The difference is who is awake at night and how many caregivers share the week.

Caregiver steadying a senior man as he walks with his walker

24-hour care

Two or three caregivers rotate in shifts, so someone is awake and alert all night. Best when nights are active: wandering, bathroom trips, confusion or fall risk.

Caregiver comforting a senior woman at home

Live-in care

One caregiver stays in the home, works the day and sleeps there, available if needed. Best when nights are mostly calm and a familiar face matters most.

Not sure which?

The home safety assessment tells you honestly which one fits, and you can change as needs change.

When families choose around-the-clock care

  • After a hospital or rehab discharge: the first weeks home are the riskiest for a fall or readmission.
  • Dementia with night-time wandering: an awake caregiver so the family can finally sleep.
  • A spouse who can no longer manage alone: full coverage while the couple stays together at home.
  • Instead of a nursing home: care in a familiar house, often at a comparable cost for a couple.
  • Temporary coverage: a vacation, a surgery, or while the family decides what is next.

Shifts are a minimum of 4 hours. We tell you honestly what we can staff and when.

Where to start

24-hour and live-in care questions

What is the difference between 24-hour care and live-in care?

With 24-hour care, two or three caregivers rotate in shifts so someone is awake all night. With live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home, works during the day and sleeps there, available if needed. Live-in needs a private room for the caregiver and reasonably calm nights.

How fast can 24-hour care start?

Usually within 24 hours of your call, and often the same day when a family needs the first night covered. The home safety assessment, care plan and caregiver introduction can all happen that day.

How much does 24-hour home care cost in Houston or Dallas?

24-hour care is billed by the hour; live-in care is billed by the day. Both depend on the level of care. See your exact rate in about a minute with the online quote. There is no long-term commitment.

Is 24-hour home care cheaper than a nursing home?

For one person it is often comparable to a private room in a facility; for a couple who can share a caregiver it is usually less, and they stay in their own home. The quote tool shows your real numbers.

Will the caregivers be awake at night?

With 24-hour care, yes, every shift is awake. With live-in care the caregiver sleeps but is on call for bathroom trips or an emergency. We help you choose based on how active the nights are.

Can the same caregivers stay with us long term?

Yes. We build a small consistent team for 24-hour care and keep the same live-in caregiver whenever possible, with planned relief days and a known backup.

Does long-term care insurance or the VA pay for 24-hour care?

Most long-term care policies pay a daily benefit toward it, and eligible veterans can combine VA in-home hours, respite and Aid and Attendance. We help with the paperwork for both.

Can you add skilled nursing if needed?

Yes. Angels Instead is a licensed Home Health Agency and can add skilled nursing visits to a 24-hour care plan when a doctor orders them.

My experience with Angels Instead was awesome! They took care of my Grandma who has dementia. They sent us a consistent caregiver, Julie, who was fantastic. She always made it on time and she treated my grandma with compassion and respect. She accompanied her to Dr. appointments and played with her piano. She also did daily exercises with her and always kept the house tidy and clean! The agency follows up with us daily after each shift and makes sure all went well. I recommend them to every family who is looking for home care! By the way, they had a family portal that kept all our family up to date on everything my Grandma is doing! No surprises on invoices and their rates are affordable compared to what other agencies quoted us.

Our family is endlessly grateful for Angels Instead, especially for Luisa, the CNA who cared for my grandmother during her final months. We truly believe that when we reached out to Angels Instead, God sent us an actual angel. Luisa cared for my grandma with a level of love, patience, and compassion that went far beyond anything we expected. She treated her with dignity, tenderness, and genuine affection every single day. Her presence also brought tremendous comfort to my mom, who felt supported, guided, and never alone in the process of caring for her own mother. Losing my grandma has been incredibly difficult, but knowing she was surrounded by such compassionate care brings us so much peace. I cannot thank Angels Instead, especially Luisa and Tammy, enough. If you are looking for a home care agency that treats your loved one like family, this is the place. We will forever be grateful.
